Improve Quality of Life. Without Surgery.

What is a Pessary?

A pessary is a medical device made of silicone used to treat a variety of pelvic floor disorders, such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence and urgency.

Pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence can be treated with pelvic floor muscle training, pessary use, or surgery.

The primary goal of any treatment is to improve symptoms and minimize progression with conservative, non-surgical approaches as much as possible.

How can a Pessary help me?

If you are experiencing a prolapse, pessaries are a popular alternative to surgery. In fact, many surgical candidates are fitted for a pessary while they wait.

Also used as a preventative measure, pessaries can help prevent further progression of your prolapse when your pelvic floor is weak (between births and after menopause).

Designed to sit comfortably inside your vagina, it provides additional support to your pelvic organs and alleviates symptoms such as pressure, discomfort and incontinence.

A pessary is designed to help reposition and support the internal pelvic organs. Repositioning of the organs may help improve pelvic floor strength, endurance and coordination. The additional support provided by a pessary can help you better control symptoms such as:

  • urine leakage
  • heaviness
  • incomplete bladder
  • incomplete bowel emptying
  • bulging

Avoid Surgery

Many choose to use a pessary to avoid surgery, while waiting for surgery or if they aren’t surgery candidates.

Removable

If you decide you no longer want to use a pessary or it is no longer needed, it can be easily removed without causing harm.

Immediate Support

Support your pelvic floor organs immediately, so you can alleviate pressure, discomfort and other symptoms you are experiencing as soon as possible.

Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Canada recommend that pessaries should be considered in all women presenting with bothersome pelvic organ prolapse or stress urinary incontinence

Custom-fit for you.

Our bodies come in different shapes and sizes. Your pessary is custom fit for you and your needs.

It’s important that your pessary is fitted by a trained and experienced healthcare professional.

Poor fit will lead to poor results. In some cases, it can lead to vaginal damage like tissue breakdown and infection.

How do I get started?

Whether you have a referral from a doctor or still on the fence, we start with an assessment of your pelvic floor. Our goal is to correct any underlying issues so we can get the best results from your fitting.

During your fitting, we will find a pessary that best suits the needs of you and your body. We will ensure that you are comfortable, able to perform every day activities and have a comprehensive understanding of how to use and care for it.

Your body will need time to adjust to your new pessary. We want to ensure it’s performing well during every-day life, but also during those activities you love and want to get back to.

Maybe you have been holding off on that hike? Or want to get back to that Zumba class? Now’s the time to do it. We’ll be here for you to follow-up with adjustments, questions or issues that may come up.
